I Found My Thrill...

We're all pretty tapped out financially after paying all the moving related expenses, but my daughter got creative this past weekend and gave me a gift that I'm thrilled with.  What was it?
Simply a set of small spray bottles, a package of colored markers and a bottle of rubbing alcohol that she picked up at the dollar store.  You might shake your head and wonder "What's so thrilling about that?", lol!
And the thrill is this:  I'm going to be able to experiment with using alcohol inks!  We used this video as a reference to create our own.

I now have six 2 oz bottles of alcohol ink (six different colors) to play with.  Ranger alcohol ink is about $3.50 for .5 oz, so my daughter saved approximately $80.00!
Next, I'm going to try making my own decorative tapes.  Here's a post about that:
Then on to paper flower embellishments courtesy of this post:
Oh, and maybe some shrink plastic buttons too!
Do you have any money saving tips for creating art supplies, embellishments, etc.?

  1. What a wonderful gift. I think this proves you are a great mom! Thanks for sharing all this great information.

  2. I thought it was a good gift even before I watched the video but now I'm doubly impressed. I love any kind of art gift, no matter how small or simple.

  3. Awww, thanks Joy! I'm lucky enough that my kids do tell people that I've been a great mom :) Oh, and I plan on posting more frugal creativity tips in the future too.

  4. Melisa, it really was a wonderful gift and I was impressed that, instead of settling for not being able to afford a typical gift, my daughter gave it thought, time and heart.
I hope that both of you have a fantastic week!

  5. Thanks for sharing Cynthia, this is a great idea. i shall look out for those pens in the UK too.
    hugs June x
